Vail, Colorado ~ March 22nd - March 29th, 2014
Trip Leader: Jeannie Kilpatrick-Staubus
The club’s Spring Break Trip to Vail on March 22nd -29th was a huge success. Several members commented that it was the best week of skiing they had ever experienced. When we arrived in Denver the snow was falling and it snowed on us all the way to Vail. We had a lovely wine and cheese welcome reception in the Cucina restaurant in The Lodge at Vail and began making our plans for the first day of skiing. It was great to stay so close to the gondola and have Vail Sports for our rentals right there!
On Sunday, we awoke to 7 inches of powder and a wonderful day on the mountain. Vail is so huge that it is hard to decide where you want to ski. George and Jo Dalmas and Dick and Priscilla Robinson gave us some good pointers about the mountain as they have skied there yearly for over 20 years! On Monday we had acres of corduroy to ski/board and bluebird skies. We relaxed in the hot tubs before capping off our day with a group pizza party. Everyone got acquainted there and talked about their favorite runs.
On Tuesday, 12 of our group took the Turtle Bus over to Beaver Creek . We skied all day and enjoyed an Apres Ski at McCoy’s with music and outdoor seating.
On Wednesday, we had another beautiful groomer day and then Matt Bragaw and Karen Bettencourt cooked dinner for the whole crowd. They prepared Spaghetti Carbonara that was so delicious we didn’t care how fattening it was! Kenton Anz entertained us with his guitar and really made the evening special.
On Thursday morning we awoke to 4 inches of powder and it was still coming down. And then on Friday, we had 7 inches of powder that promised another epic day on the slopes. I can’t wait until our next Spring Break trip!
It was wonderful to meet Steve and Nancy Bachand, friends of Jeff and Tamara Koss, and Mike and Katy O’Neil who were traveling with the club for the first time.
I would like to thank our roommates, Jesse and Linda Gibson, for putting up with our entertaining all week. They were so much fun and so agreeable to any plans we made!
