For those reading through these trip reports, you know that week 3 of this season’s 4 consecutive ski weeks brought the club to Winter Park in Colorado. A magnificent 7 club members transferred together from Schweitzer to Winter Park which included Cal Staubus and Jim Frye on their 3rd week. We started with the luxury of us being able to spread out in our own tour bus. Yes, the bus driver did ask where the rest of the club was and we told him we were the hard core group continuing the club’s ski season.
On Sunday, Winter Park welcomed us with 6 inches of fresh snow and half of the population of Denver. And we were told it was less crowded than Saturday. So for future reference, avoid weekend skiing at Winter Park. But the rest of the week was great! Our group enjoyed a week of temperate weather with a mix of sun and clouds each day. We had similar snow conditions as Heavenly, skiing on hard early season bases that the resort worked to provide nice groomers all over the mountain.
Our hotel is connected by a cabriolet lift to the Winter Park ski village. The lift and village seem like a winter version of Disney land. And the holiday lights in the town of Winter Park complete the picture of a winter wonderland. We had a cozy group dinner at Randi’s Pub and Grill, an Irish place in town that due to the pandemic was lacking in Irish beers. But never fear, we did find something to drink and also enjoyed some excellent dinners.
We left Winter Park as it got another snow fall and long lines of traffic coming in as we were headed out. And Cal and Jim were off to their 4th week of skiing in Taos.
