We hit the lottery on skiing conditions for this trip! The skiing conditions were great and we had some fresh powder and some bluebird skies on numerous days for our skiers to enjoy.

On Sunday night we enjoyed a club dinner at Fatty’s Pizza and Pasta in downtown Breckenridge. Along with the delicious meal of various pasta dishes and salads, we enjoyed getting to know each other amid much laughter, and of course the beverages were flowing. The restaurant very kindly put the football game on every TV in our private room so everyone could watch. It was a sad day for our Buffalo Bills fans (sorry Jennifer and Barbara)..

Monday night was the FSC welcome party at the Colorado Ballroom at the Beaver Run Resort. It was very conveniently located as we were staying at the resort and could simply walk to the ballroom to enjoy an Italian buffet followed by music and dancing. For the first time in many years Space Coast put together a race team and we had race practice that day as well.

Tuesday was race day and the club had 11 people from the club compete- only 2 had previously raced before and everyone all managed to get in at least one clean run! Michael Stelzer did a wonderful job as race captain and kept everyone on track and his enthusiasm was contagious! Also, a big thank you to the club members who came out to cheer the racers on. Following the race we enjoyed lunch at the Vista Haus where each person was provided with a voucher to choose the lunch of their choice. It was also crazy dress day and we definitely had some crazy costumes including Joy Wagner’s head to toe fur cat costume, Ted Kaehler as Uncle Sam and some pretty tutus worn by Susan DuBois and Nancy Campbell.

Thursday was the FSC “Gold Digger” Theme Farewell Party. Space Coast could be picked out in the crowd with our bright yellow construction hats and matching t-shirts. Many people personalized their outfits and we looked quite snazzy! Jori made a necklace of paper bills, many people had beads and other gold paraphernalia and Nancy rocked a glittery gold skirt. Thanks to Stacy Burgett for the leg work on getting the t-shirts designed and delivered to the pre-trip party. We received a lot of nice compliments on the matching outfits.

Race awards were also given at the FSC Party. William Webb received an award for fastest racer in his age group and Tony Sever received the “most senior skier” race award. Tony was so excited and our members were just as excited for him. He is an inspiration and we all hope we can be skiing at 88 years young! Dinner was a delicious Mexican Buffet and we soon found out which bartender made the best margaritas! Lots of members enjoyed the music and dancing and it was a fun evening.

On Friday some of the skiers took advantage of the Vail Day offered by FSC. Thanks to Doug Smith for providing a mountain tour to our Space Coast Group. Earlier in the week Cal and Jon took advantage of the free shuttle to Keystone. They were very happy to be able to ski three different resorts.

It was a wonderful week full of fun, skiing, making new friends, connecting with some old friends and enjoying the winter wonderland and playground offered at Breckenridge!
