Trip Leader: Jeff Koss
Your Space Coast Ski & Travel Club completed its first trip to Sun Valley, Idaho, in more than a decade. 21 travelers make the trek to the newly remodeled Sun Valley Lodge Resort and the wonderful skiing offered on the two Sun Valley ski areas. Seven of our travelers were “have-not-skied-in-years” skiers and after a day on the smaller Dollar Mountain were out exploring the main ski area of Bald Mountain.
This was an excellent year for a Club trip to Sun Valley. The historic Sun Valley Lodge, which was the country’s first destination ski area, completed a major renovation and update this past year. Our travelers were treated to new and larger guest rooms in the main lodge with re-appointed restaurants, lounges, a spa and pool areas. Those that preferred a condominium stay were offered both 2-bedroom/2-bath deluxe or economy apartments. The travelers found the free shuttle system quickly moved the skiers from the resort to the town of Ketchum or onto any of the three ski mountain base lift areas.
As all of our Club trips offer, multiple opportunities were held for people to gather and share their Alpine experiences. The Resort offered a Welcome Reception to introduce the Resort, the town and the ski areas. We utilized Door2Door Ski Rental who delivered all rental equipment to the individual lodging rooms the evening of arrival—a wonderful service! All skiers were ready to hit the slopes first thing on Sunday morning. The group enjoyed two happy hours and two group dinners over the Sun Valley ski week. This group turned out to be a very social bunch that brightened the entire travel experience.
The feedback from the skiers was that the Sun Valley Resort and ski areas were a wonderful place for a winter’s vacation. I would recommend the SCSTC Board consider a return trip to Sun Valley in the near future.
