Taos Ski Valley came to life in 1953 after Ernie Blake spotted the perfect location to

build a ski resort while flying his Cessna. Ernie purchased 80 acres and started clearing

a run by hand with a mule named Lightning. Ernie, wife Rhoda and kids spent the next

five decades molding Taos Ski Valley into a unique mountain destination. 

In 2014, Louis Bacon, a billionaire hedge-fund manager and conservationist bought the

mountain and started pouring in millions. Balancing the resort’s need to modernize

while retaining its soul is the top priority. Taos’ base village has a distinctive charm. It

is vibrant but not overly commercialized.

A motto in Taos is ‘improve everything but change nothing." 

The resort now features 110 trails across 1,294 skiable acres with 15 lifts. Base

elevation is 9,207 feet and a summit at 12,481 feet. While not the biggest ski resort,

Taos offers something no other one does – Ski Week.

Reason #2 – A Ski School Like No Other

For $375, the Ernie Blake Snowsports School offers a “Ski Week” that will transform

your skiing. With expert instruction, small groups, and a supportive atmosphere, you

will build confidence, refine technique, and explore more of the mountain with skiers of

the same level. Your 2-hour lesson each morning focuses on whatever you desire

whether its’ to carve prettier turns, tackle steeps, take on bumps or maybe learn the

secrets to floating on powder. At the end of the week, the Taos experience

finishes at one of the legendary martini trees.

Roger Mariani has been the Manager of the Snakedance Condos for more than 35

years. Just like Ernie Blake, Roger’s hospitality is legendary. On Monday night you are

invited to Diane & Roger’s beautiful Adobe home where the food and beverage will

make for the most memorable ‘Welcome Party’ ever. You will again enjoy the ‘Mariani

experience’ on Friday evening with an Apre Ski Event that will blow you away. More on

that later.

Our accommodations will be at the beautiful Snakedance Condos. Each condominium is uniquely furnished and has a fully equipped kitchen, living room, dining area, marinette balcony, gas fireplace, cable TV and high-speed internet. Coin operated laundry on premises.

Now, let’s talk Ski School. You’re a pretty good skier? We can all get better and use a little skiing tune-up. The Taos Ski School is famous for their Ski Week where you can improve the skills you wish; steeps, bumps, powder or perfecting technique on the groomed runs. Six half day coaching #375 per person .

Taos is on the IKON pass, Lift Tickets and discounted ski rentals will be available.
